Eighteen - Nineteen Weeks

We've had a difficult week!
Sorry for the delay in getting up the posts - hard to believe this is the first time that I have missed a week since Brody was born. I think you will all forgive me when you hear of the week I have had!

Following Brody's last doctor appointment it was decided that we would be getting an ultrasound of his head to make sure that everything was okay with his brain due to the increase in his head size. So that has been weighing on my mind even though everyone was sure that he was going to be just fine. To add to that stress my week just kept getting worse! Jim had to travel last week so Brody and I were left alone on last Tuesday morning. On Wednesday it appeared that Brody had recovered from his illness and was healthy enough to receive his 4 month vaccines so I took him into work on Wednesday night. I felt awful watching his little face turn from a bright eyed baby to horror as he realized that he was being hurt by the two nurses. He recovered quickly though giving the doctor another smile before we left for home. On Thursday I became really sick with an awful cold and ended up coming home early from work because I could barely talk. Luckily my mom was already scheduled to come and spend the night with us Thursday so she arrived around 3pm and we went to get Brody at daycare. They met us at the door when we arrived stating that Brody had a temperature of 102 degrees! I was so glad that my mom was there because I was barely keeping myself healthy and this news just put me over the edge! Brody's temperature continued until Saturday morning and then he finally seemed like he was going to be back to normal. But on Sunday morning his fever was back and we decided to take him back to the doctor. She listened to his lungs and it sounded like his infection was back so he was started on another antibiotic. It took until Tuesday morning for us to see a real change in him...he hadn't really smiled for a whole week! I was so thankful when we woke up on Tuesday and he was laying there smiling back at me!

We went to the hospital yesterday to get an ultrasound of his head and today we heard that everything appears to be normal! Oh what a relief! I never knew that I could worry so much about this little guy! It seems like nothing matters in life except for him being healthy...and when he is sad so are you!

Things are finally back to normal besides his sleeping habits. It seems that since he was sick and we were catering to his every need that he has forgotten how to sleep through most of the night so Jim and I are attempting the "cry it out" method by letting him cry for 3 minutes and then going in to tell him he is okay and then waiting another 5 minutes to go back and do the same. Last night was our first try at it and it worked okay - although it is very difficult to listen to him crying! My hope is that we can get down to only having one feeding during the night and then one at 6am when we get up.

Hopefully after reading all of this you can all sympathize with me on why it has taken so long for me to get the blog updated. I really hope that we will all be healthy again soon (I have almost recovered from my cold). Motherhood keeps proving to be more difficult than I ever imagined! I had no idea a year ago how much this little guy would mean to me and how I would do anything just to make him happy and healthy.

Here are some pictures to enjoy from the last two weeks!

Brody wore the sweater Grandma Christiansen made him (I think he kind of looks like a little girl in these pictures!)

Grandpa Christiansen was teaching Brody how to style his hair before church

Brody sporting the hat that Grandma Raguckas sent and this new shoes that we bought him!

Brody was getting a lesson from dad on how to make a budget!

Finally we are back to normal!
