Eighteen - Nineteen Weeks

We've had a difficult week!
Sorry for the delay in getting up the posts - hard to believe this is the first time that I have missed a week since Brody was born. I think you will all forgive me when you hear of the week I have had!

Following Brody's last doctor appointment it was decided that we would be getting an ultrasound of his head to make sure that everything was okay with his brain due to the increase in his head size. So that has been weighing on my mind even though everyone was sure that he was going to be just fine. To add to that stress my week just kept getting worse! Jim had to travel last week so Brody and I were left alone on last Tuesday morning. On Wednesday it appeared that Brody had recovered from his illness and was healthy enough to receive his 4 month vaccines so I took him into work on Wednesday night. I felt awful watching his little face turn from a bright eyed baby to horror as he realized that he was being hurt by the two nurses. He recovered quickly though giving the doctor another smile before we left for home. On Thursday I became really sick with an awful cold and ended up coming home early from work because I could barely talk. Luckily my mom was already scheduled to come and spend the night with us Thursday so she arrived around 3pm and we went to get Brody at daycare. They met us at the door when we arrived stating that Brody had a temperature of 102 degrees! I was so glad that my mom was there because I was barely keeping myself healthy and this news just put me over the edge! Brody's temperature continued until Saturday morning and then he finally seemed like he was going to be back to normal. But on Sunday morning his fever was back and we decided to take him back to the doctor. She listened to his lungs and it sounded like his infection was back so he was started on another antibiotic. It took until Tuesday morning for us to see a real change in him...he hadn't really smiled for a whole week! I was so thankful when we woke up on Tuesday and he was laying there smiling back at me!

We went to the hospital yesterday to get an ultrasound of his head and today we heard that everything appears to be normal! Oh what a relief! I never knew that I could worry so much about this little guy! It seems like nothing matters in life except for him being healthy...and when he is sad so are you!

Things are finally back to normal besides his sleeping habits. It seems that since he was sick and we were catering to his every need that he has forgotten how to sleep through most of the night so Jim and I are attempting the "cry it out" method by letting him cry for 3 minutes and then going in to tell him he is okay and then waiting another 5 minutes to go back and do the same. Last night was our first try at it and it worked okay - although it is very difficult to listen to him crying! My hope is that we can get down to only having one feeding during the night and then one at 6am when we get up.

Hopefully after reading all of this you can all sympathize with me on why it has taken so long for me to get the blog updated. I really hope that we will all be healthy again soon (I have almost recovered from my cold). Motherhood keeps proving to be more difficult than I ever imagined! I had no idea a year ago how much this little guy would mean to me and how I would do anything just to make him happy and healthy.

Here are some pictures to enjoy from the last two weeks!

Brody wore the sweater Grandma Christiansen made him (I think he kind of looks like a little girl in these pictures!)

Seventeen Weeks

Brody enjoying his jumparoo!

Brody is 4 months old now! I can't believe how time has flown by and how quickly Brody is changing!

This week started out crazy again! Brody's cough got much worse on Sunday so we took him to see the doctor at my work. He had a lot of mucous in this throat and nose and the doctor heard some in his lungs so he was started on an antibiotic. He really enjoys his medication since it tastes like bubblegum! He is doing much better but still has a lot of mucous that he can't seem to get rid of. Jim came down with the stomach flu on Sunday night so between the two of them I got a total of 2 hours of sleep. I was actually happy to go to work on Monday to have some quiet time to myself!

Everyone is finally healthy and we went for Brody's 4 month checkup today. He weighs 14lbs 15 oz and was 25 inches long. He continues to fall into the 50th percentile for weight and the 75th percentile for height. He didn't get his vaccinations because he is still recovering from his illness so we will be going back next week (and of course Jim will be traveling so I will be the bad guy!). His head has grown a lot since the last visit...jumping from the 75th to about the 100th percentile. The doctor didn't seem to be too worried since Brody is developing well in every other way. He showed off that he is now able to roll over from his stomach to his back! That just started last night and he was sure to show the doctor when she was trying to see him hold his head up. He is also great at grasping toys and moving them towards his mouth. He is also starting to support his weight on his legs for longer amounts of time. He really loves to sit in his jumparoo.

We will be heading to my parents this weekend so that Jim and I can go out and celebrate Valentine's day on Saturday night. My parents and brother are looking forward to seeing Brody again. He really is so much fun to play with. Last night I got him laughing and it was so cute! He is such a happy little guy...even when we went to the doctor when he was sick he was smiling at the nurse.

Here are some pictures from the week!

Jim discovered that Brody likes to fly this week! It was so funny to watch him hold his legs out striaght

Brody made us a Valentine at school today!

Sorry I can't figure out how to post the video upright!

Sixteen Weeks - Oh what a week!

Sorry for the delay in getting the post up for this week. We have had a very eventful week! Jim had to travel for the first time for a whole week. He left on Monday and I called him to tell him I was feeling really nervous about the week - and oh did I have a reason too! Monday night I woke up at 11pm with the stomach flu and it continued until 4am! I would wake up get sick and then have to go and take care of Brody. I never thought I would be able to do what I did in the last few days. I would call my mom every time I got up just looking for some comforting words. My dad was such a saint that he came early on Tuesday morning and took care of Brody for the majority of the day on Tuesday and through the night last night. He even got Brody ready for daycare this morning for me - he was so much help! I tried to go to work today but was home by noon. I took about a 3 hour nap and then headed to get Brody. We are having a huge snow storm so the roads were awful! This has been some week without Jim! I can't wait for him to return tomorrow night.

Brody just woke up so this is a short post this week....I will make sure to add more to the next post.
